Our position
W'sup has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). They are strictly prohibited on W'sup, in every form, with no exceptions. W'sup is only for people aged 18 and over, and anyone under 18 may not use it.
What is strictly prohibited
- any content, image, video, text or conversation that sexualises, exploits or endangers a child (CSAM)
- grooming, enticing, or contacting a child for sexual or other harmful purposes
- sextortion, trafficking, or any other exploitation of a child
- trying to use W'sup to meet, contact or arrange to meet anyone under 18
- sharing, requesting, advertising or linking to child sexual abuse material
- lying about your age to use the app
How we keep children off the app
- You must be 18 or older. We ask for your age when you sign up, and we do not allow anyone under 18 to continue.
- The app is invite-only, so every new person joins through someone or something we can trace.
- Chats open only after both people agree, and only in the app, where people can report them.
- We remove accounts we believe belong to someone under 18.
How to report a child safety concern
- In the app: open the chat, tap the person's picture, and choose "Report or end chat". The chat closes for both people and the report goes to our team.
- Or write to our child safety contact at founders@heywsup.life.
- If a child is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number first.
- In India you can also report to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in, helpline 1930). In the UK, contact the police or the Internet Watch Foundation (report.iwf.org.uk).
What we do when we find it
- We read every child safety report. We act on them straight away, and sooner than any other kind of report.
- We remove the content and the account, and we do not let that person back.
- We keep the evidence the law requires.
- We report CSAE and CSAM to the police and to the national or regional authorities that the law names, such as NCMEC, the IWF or the Indian authorities, and we cooperate with their investigations.
Our child safety contact
The person who answers for child safety at W'sup is our founding team, at founders@heywsup.life. They can speak about how we prevent and respond to CSAM and CSAE and how we follow the law.
